According to a report by market research firm SensorTower, the number of global app downloads in Q1 2022 will reach 36.9 billion, an increase of 1.4 percentage points over the same period last year.
Among them, the Goole Play package accounted for 77% of the total downloads reaching 28.3 billion times, a growth rate of 1.1%. Apple’s App Store grew 2.4 percent to 8.6 billion. Unsurprisingly, TikTok surpassed Instagram to win the title of the most downloaded app in the world in Q1 in 2022 with a brilliant score of 3.5 billion.
Although this year’s Q1 Goole Play App downloads reached 28.3 billion times, it was only a slight increase from about 28 billion times in the same period last year. Among all apps, TikTok has won the “Global App Download King” across Google Play and App Store with an astonishing 3.5 billion downloads.
As for 2 to 5, they are all arranged by Meta’s App, and the rankings are Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram. Among them, Telegram, which ranks fifth, most of its new users come from the Android platform.
As far as the app download status of the Google Play Store itself is concerned, the top three downloads are all around 120 million times, but the most powerful ones are not TikTok, but Instagram and Facebook. TikTok’s home game is the App Store, where it has over 70 million downloads, ahead of second-placed Youtube (40 million+).
Moreover, TikTok completely dominates the US market with nearly 19 million downloads. YouTube and Facebook, which are ranked second and third with about 11.5 million downloads, can’t even see TikTok’s taillights.
The battle between Google and Meta for “the world’s largest app publisher” has been going on for many years. Since Google was first pulled down from the “publishing king” throne in 2020, the overall download volume has gradually shifted to Meta’s side. There is only a slight difference of 4 million total downloads between the two.
