717 gigapixel historical photo for a historical artifact table

Rembrandt’s famous painting “The Night’s Watch” has been fully digitized with unprecedented precision at the renowned museum Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The term digital twin has come into vogue in the Metaverse. Here is the picture of Rembrandt’s magnificent painting, The Night Watch, on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Every centimeter of the 15.86 m2 work was photographed at 100 megapixel resolution. 8,439 shots were taken to achieve a total resolution of 717 billion pixels. Therefore, the highest resolution photograph of a work of art ever created was created to scan this canvas. Measuring 363 cm × 437 cm, the masterpiece also points to the artist’s mastery of light and shadow.

On this occasion, the museum set up a team called “Operation Night Watch”. The technicians used a Hasselblad H6D attached to an articulated arm to shoot. To optimize sharpness and color accuracy, they each had a depth of field of just 125 micrometers (about 1/8th of a millimeter).
