When going up against the Fire Giant, one Elden Ring player experienced a strange sudden death during the fight. FromSoftware is well known for the strange deaths in their games, and Elden Ring is definitely no stranger, hosting a wide variety of ways that players may die. Some of these include just strange ways for players to be pushed off ledges, or even an Ulcerated Tree Spirit reaching through the wall to grab the player. Even death by a glitch, while frustrating, is something one can derive any form of reason from. However, while most of those are explainable, it can be quite weird when a death just doesn't seem to have an explanation.
The Fire Giant is a boss well known in Elden Ring, and not just for its important spot in the game's story. The Fire Giant is fought to gain entry to a prominent location in the game, Crumbling Farum Azula. Being such a gigantic beast, the Fire Giant's move set is composed mostly of slow attacks that hit rather hard, but he has been known to spam his roll attack way too much which still annoys players. When enough damage is done, a cutscene transitions the fight into the Fire Giant's second phase.
It's during that transition into the Fire Giant's second phase that this story takes place. Posting to r/Eldenring, user PorkyPun uploaded a clip of them fighting the Fire Giant while atop the spirit steed Torrent. As the Fire Giant is letting out a fire attack, the player slashes the ankle and cues the transition cutscene. However, when the cutscene ends, the player suddenly dies, ending the fight. While Fire Giant fights have been known to end in disaster, this is a different case.
In the comments, some of the users are just as perplexed as the poster, though some have provided a possible explanation for the Elden Ring bug. In the clip, the Fire Giant does throw out a fireball, and it continues to move through the cutscene. With the player still in that location during the cutscene, the fireball hit, and as soon as the cutscene is over, the damage is done and the player dies. This would make sense and does follow what is seen in the clip.In these cases, not much can be done but to get back up and get back in the fight, where hopefully the same occurrence doesn't happen again.
