The Quarry--the next game from Until Dawn studio Supermassive--is set to release in just a few weeks, but its online multiplayer mode will not be available at launch.
Launching instead on July 8, which is about a month after the game's release date, The Quarry's online mode essentially turns the game into a viewer-controlled choose-your-own-adventure story. Up to seven people can access a host's session and watch along, voting at key moments to make crucial decisions. It's separate from the local co-op mode, which will be available at launch and uses a "pass the controller" format with each player controlling one camp counselor.
Announced this March, The Quarry is a horror game from the studio behind Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology. Set at Hackett’s Quarry summer camp, the game has nine playable counselors, each of which can live or die based on the player’s actions. Just like the studios’ previous games, the cast is stacked with Hollywood actors, including Brenda Song, David Arquette, and Justice Smith (who was also in Detective Pikachu). Gameplay in The Quarry centers around the studio’s signature choice-driven cutscenes, but also features areas the player can explore to find clues and collectibles.
As Matt said, this means you can "plop your bot on the sofa, grab your popcorn with two controller-free hands, and soak up its scares with only minimal exertions from yourself." Ahh, lovely.
The Quarry will release on 10th June for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Windows PC via Steam, and is available for preorder now.
