Once you start working on your farm in this game you’ll notice a batch of weeds will start growing amongst your crops in Farming Simulator 22.
They are of no value and will lower the yield of your crops by a large margin so it’s in your best interest to exterminate them as quickly as you can.
Weeds present a high potential yield loss as they compete with crops for sunlight, water, nutrients, and space. You want to remove them as fast and thoroughly as possible. You can deactivate weed growth in the game settings if you don’t want to deal with it.
Tip! After plowing, using a plow or sprader, weeds will not grow.
Tip! You get 20% more yield if your harvest is free of weeds.
In Farming Simulator, weeds are a type of field state. There are different stages of weed growth: small, medium & large. Depending on their size, different machinery is used – more on that below. Weeds can be removed at any time before the crops are ready to be harvested.
- Small weeds grow after only a couple of hours of in-game time. You’ll notice green patches. Those little troublemakers will multiply, quickly. If you don’t get rid of them, your field gets infested, and it will only get harder to remove them.
- Medium weeds are becoming visually more diverse and appear in higher density.
- Large weeds mature into even higher and blooming flowers, easily distinguishable from your crops. Now, you need to act, and it’s your last chance.
Tip! The field info box tells you, what growth stage the weeds are at and what machinery is required to get rid of them.
How to Remove Weeds in Farming Simulator 22?
You have several options to remove weeds in your field. Your approach can depend on the growth stage of weed in the field.
1. Weeder
If you want to remove weeds, it is vital that you catch the problem early.
You can only use a weeder during the first stage of any crop growing. If the crop passes this first stage, the yield will be decreased and you won’t be able to do anything until the crops are harvested. If your crops are fully grown and you have just noticed weeds, it is too late.
Use a weeder against small weeds
Weeders will mechanically remove small weeds. There is an exception to the rule: a weeder can’t be used with crops that are planted in rows (corn and potatoes).
All you can do is take this as a lesson for next time. To remove weeds, the first thing that you need to do is buy a Weeder.
This is a tool that can be attached to a tractor and used to pull weeds out of an otherwise good field.
Once you have the weeder, you need to attach it to your tractor.
Before doing this, make sure you have a weight attached to the front of the tractor. If you don’t, the tractor will tip backward when you connect the weeder. To attach a tool to your tractor, simply drive near it until a button prompt appears. When you have the weeder attached, you can use the button prompts in the top-left corner of the screen to unfold it.
This will bring the blades down to the ground so that they can rip the weeds out as you drive over your fields.
As I mentioned weeds need to be taken care of quickly or they grow in number quite quickly may I add? If they happen to proliferate to an extended number then you’ll have to pull out your wallet and buy a sprayer to spray Herbicides on them. This not only will hurt your wallet but will also hurt your yield so gets rid of weeds as they come.
Use a hoe against medium weeds
Hoes are used for medium weeds. But, they can remove small weeds as well. They are designed, so they can operate between crops that are planted in rows without destroying them, too. Hoes are also found in the weeder category.
2. Herbicides
First, you have to couple the weight (depending on the task you have to couple it either at the front or at the back).
When you have attached all devices to the tractor, you can see all the details in the top left of the screen. For example, if you have to spray herbicides, there is a note that you have to fill the device first!
If you now leave the vehicle, look for the” shopping cart” symbol at the company’s building. Run there, when you are at the symbol, you will be shown the corresponding button to open the menu of the dealer.
Then select the Objects tab. Now you see bigbag pallets, bigbags, pallets and bales. Herbicides can be found under pallets, depending on what you need.
So choose the fertilizer you need or what you need. Buy it and the object will appear where the devices (The Rented Vehicle) were parked. Now all you have to do is fill the tank (seed drill or other equipment). To do this, drive the trailer to the pallet and press the corresponding button to fill it. When the filling is finished, drive to the indicated field and do your work.
